Gamine Vintage was founded in 2021 by Orly Gonsalves. She started the business as a way to combine her love of styling and curating with her love of vintage and antique clothing. Orly started collecting vintage in 2017 with the re-discovery of some of her mom’s t-shirts from the 80s. Having and wearing clothing that carries a memory and history was the starting point for her journey into the world of vintage. Through her last few years at Emerson College, Orly focused on developing her business as a brand that represents more than just the physical clothing but the history they contain and a focus on the sustainability of shopping vintage and second hand clothing. 

Gamine style is often described as feminine and delicate while also being boyish and mischievous; Audrey Hepburn is often pointed at as the original gamine in pop-culture. Being able to wear clothing from a century ago without the societal and stylistic constraints from that time can create the feeling of a gamine essence. Gamine felt like the right word to describe the vintage shop and the style it hopes to emulate. Clothing is meant to be fun and expressive!

The fast paced production of clothing made with plastic materials leads to millions of pieces of clothing being thrown in landfills. Prioritizing quality and meaningfulness of clothing when shopping leads to clothing that lasts a lifetime and 

History: With pre-loved clothing comes the history that each piece holds whether it be specific to the former wearer(s) or the time period that the clothing came from. This history is one of the most important parts of the clothing item. A great step to take in becoming a more conscious consumer is to place value in individual garments, wearing something that carries important history and memories will always guarantee a more interesting and special piece of clothing.
